In a bold move that underscores its ongoing commitment to innovation in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Amazon announced a massive investment of more than 2.5 billion euros in the startup Anthropic, responsible for the popular chatbot Claude.
This new outlay, amounting to $2.75 billion (€2.54 billion), marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between Amazon and Anthropic.Added to a previous investment in September last year, the total investment now totals a staggering $4 billion (€3.694 billion).
The agreement, which meets the terms established six months ago, has materialized before the March deadline, reflecting the commitment and confidence of both parties in the potential of this partnership.
One of the keys to this agreement is the access Anthropic gains to Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers, as well as to Amazon’s custom chips. In addition, the company has committed to collaborate with Google(Alphabet) to use its microchips and participate as partners in its cloud computing service.
Since the emergence of Generative AI with the introduction of ChatGPT, Amazon has been at the forefront of innovation in this field. The initial announcement of your own chatbot, Olympus, marked the beginning of a series of initiatives designed to strengthen its presence in the AI market.
Recent developments include solutions to combat fake reviews, improve the online fashion shopping experience and make it easier for sellers to create listings from a URL.In addition, Rufus, an AI-powered shopping assistant, has received praise for its ability to improve the online shopping experience.
With this investment in Anthropic, Amazon reinforces its position as a leader in the AI market. The startup, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, including Daniela Amodei and her brother Dario, has become a key force in the development of cutting-edge AI technologies.
Amazon’s involvement with the Claude chatbot not only demonstrates its commitment to innovation, but could also mean a significant boost to its presence in the technology sector. With word processing skills said to surpass even ChatGPT’s, Claude represents a valuable asset in Amazon’s arsenal in the race to dominate AI.
